Keywords, in general, are the search terms that people use on search engines like Google, Bing, YouTube, or Pinterest. For example: ‘blogging tips for beginners’.
Keywords can both be short or long. ‘Blogging tips‘ is a short keyword and ‘blogging tips and tools‘ is a long keyword.
If you search for a term on Pinterest such as ‘summer outfits‘ then you’ll get some related terms. Like this:
All of the terms here you see are ‘Pinterest Keywords‘.
Pinterest keywords are a bit different from Google keywords. If I put the same term in the Google search bar then I’ll get these results:
The difference here is literal day and night!
Okay! Now we know what exactly Pinterest keywords are, let’s find out why you should use them in your pins.
WHY USE PINTEREST KEYWORDS IN YOUR PINS?
Every search engine relies on keywords because without them it won’t be possible to find anything on the internet.
Since we are only talking about Pinterest here, I’ll tell you why you need to use keywords in your pins.
According to this post, one of the best ways to rank on Pinterest is to use relevant keywords in your pins. We’ll discuss where to use keywords in your pins later in this post.
If you search for something on Pinterest, you’ll see a pin on the very top of the result page. This is because the owner of that pin used the relevant keywords appropriately.
I now hope that the reason for using keywords in your pins is clear to you.
HOW TO FIND PINTEREST KEYWORDS (2 SIMPLE WAYS)
The good thing about Pinterest is that it’s not so difficult to figure out how it works. It’s really simple. So unlike Google, doing keyword research is much more easier and simpler on Pinterest.

WHERE TO USE KEYWORDS FOR YOUR PINS
Now, it all comes down to this step. The most important step while uploading your pins!
We did the keyword research and we found some relevant keywords for our pin this is where you have to use them:
- In the Pin Title: The title of your pin is the most important place to use the keywords
- In the Pin description: Describe what your pin is about and sneak in the keywords there. You can use hashtags too.
- The pin board: Your Pinterest board is one of the most important places to use keywords so make sure your board title and description have the keywords.
- In the pin itself: Use the keywords in the pin itself and try to highlight them to make it stand out.
Here is an example of this pin that I uploaded recently for your better understanding ↓
As you can see, I’ve used the keywords in the title, description, board, and the pin itself. The text on the pin is easy to read and the keyword is highlighted to grab attention.
You can use the actual blog post title for your pins but make sure every pin looks different from each other.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH KEYWORDS
Every platform has its own rules and regulations and you, as a user, must obey them. Avoiding the rules can result negatively and may get your account suspended.
Since, in this post, we are only talking about keywords, here are some things that you must not do with Pinterest keywords at all costs:
- Don’t overuse the keywords in your titles and descriptions. This may result in keyword stuffing and may look too spammy.
- Make sure that you are using relevant keywords according to your profile and each pin.
- Don’t ignore long keywords. Using long keywords means people may discover your pins much faster.
- Pinterest has some guidelines that include keyword usage so make sure to follow them.
- Don’t rely only and only on keywords. Although using keywords is very important, creating and uploading high-quality pins is also necessary.
- If your business or blog is local then make sure to use local keywords to attract visitors from your area.
And that’s it! Just make sure you don’t make these mistakes and no one can stop you from acing your Pinterest game.
