WHAT IS A TEMPLATE?
A template is a pre-designed layout or structure that you can customize to create something quickly, like a document, graphic, or website, without starting from scratch.
Templates are also available in some basic tools that you may use very often from day to day like Google Docs or Google Sheets etc.
Take a look here ↓
These are all pre-made templates that Google Docs offers so you don’t have to design a document from complete scratch.
If you’re a blogger or a content creator, then you may have also used a free design tool called Canva.
Canva has a separate template library where you can choose from different types of templates. For example, this ↓
Now you may be wondering, ‘Why would someone buy my templates if they’re available for free?’
That’s a good point! Let’s discuss this next!
WHY WOULD SOMEONE BUY YOUR TEMPLATES WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR FREE?
There are mainly three reasons for this:
- The free templates are not unique. Thousands of people use them daily so they would be pretty generic to use.
- You can sell templates in bundles of 50-100 pages that are mostly not available in the free template libraries.
- You can create niche-specific templates and sell them to your target audience. People love templates that suit their niche!
Yes, there are many free templates available for people to use but people want something unique and something which suits their branding.
You can sell those types of templates to people in need!
Free templates get repetitive and outdated. If you use Canva often, you’ll quickly catch those templates that people have used from the free template library. I can!
Also, many free templates have their brand logo on them which people don’t like very much. So, they consider buying templates and customizing them to give them their own branding.
WHERE TO SELL THE TEMPLATES?
There are mainly two places where you can sell your templates:
- Marketplaces
- Your blog/website
You can either sell on both places or just one of them. It’s up to you. I sell templates on my own blog (yes, this one!) on a separate shop page.
To discuss this in detail:
ON MARKETPLACES
There are many marketplaces where you can sell your templates. Some of the most popular ones are:
- Etsy
- Creative Market
- Envato
- Design cuts
- Design bundles
You can list your templates on as many marketplaces as you want. The more, the merrier.
For starters, I would suggest opening an Etsy or Creative Market shop because these two are the most popular marketplaces of all and you’ll get a lot of quality customers on there.
Make sure to create at least 5-10 products before opening a shop in those marketplaces to get constant sales.
ON BLOG/WEBSITE
You can also sell your templates on a self-hosted WordPress blog. You’ll need a domain and hosting to start a blog so I suggest going for Hostinger as it’s the best option out there to start your own blog on a budget.
Here’s a full tutorial on how to start a blog for beginners!
On your blog, you can sell templates using the following ways:
- SendOwl (an affordable and one of the best payment gateway to sell digital products)
- Shopify (a bit more expensive than SendOwl but is amazing for selling your templates)
- WooCommerce (a WordPress plugin to start an online store but needs a compatible theme)
- Payhip (a free payment gateway to sell products + a great choice for people on a budget)
- Gumroad (another free payment gateway to sell products)
There are many other great options too like ThriveCart, Podia but they are a bit more advanced tools.
Every single option here is great. You can choose any method to sell your templates on your blog according to your budget or skills!
10 HIGH-DEMAND TEMPLATES TO SELL AND MAKE MONEY ONLINE
Now let’s talk about the part you’ve been waiting (scrolling?..) for!
Here are 10 templates to sell and make money online as a blogger, content creator or entrepreneur.
Keep in mind that you don’t need to sell everything and every type of template I have mentioned here to make money. Keep it suitable for your niche and target audience.
For example, I sell Canva Templates and Landing Page templates because they align with the needs of my audience. So, do not ignore this tip and make sure to not sell everything all at once.
The first template that you can sell is:
1. SOCIAL MEDIA TEMPLATES
Almost every business owner uses social media – from small to big, you need that social media magic to grow your business.
So, why not sell some templates to make things easier for them, right? It’s a win-win for both! That’s why they are in demand.
And listen, my friend. Don’t let this thought of ‘I am not a graphic designer. Can I even do this?‘ stop you from starting selling your products.
I’m not a graphic designer but still I worked hard and practiced to learn some basics. I’m doing it. Others are doing it. So, you can do this too!!
Here are some examples of social media templates you can sell:

Moving on!

Many bloggers and creators offer Workbooks to their audience as a product or a lead magnet.
You can sell Wordbook templates or you can even sell Workbook front cover pages too as a mini-template.

6. EXCEL OR GOOGLE SHEETS TEMPLATES
Next on my list are Excel or Google Sheets templates. These are pretty demanding too and are very easy to create.
People love to track their income and budget using Excel or Google Sheets. If you have some templates in mind that you can create, then go ahead and start selling!
As I said, this is one of the easiest and fastest templates to sell online!

10. NOTION TEMPLATES
If you don’t know what Notion is, it’s a note-taking tool where you can organize your tasks in one singular place. It’s a freemium tool for everyone to use!
So, another great template idea for you to sell is notion templates.
Here are some common examples of notion templates to sell:
- Personal Organization templates
- Project management templates
- Educational templates
- Health templates like a fitness tracker or sleep tracker
- Creative templates like design portfolio or vision board
- Lifestyle templates
- Content creation templates
Notion templates are very high-demanding and if you sell some unique and creative templates, then it is possible to earn a good amount of money from that.
And we’re done with our list of the best types of templates to sell.
Some important things to keep in mind:
- Make sure that the templates you sell are your creativity. Copying designs or formats from other sellers is not ethical.
- You don’t need to be a complete pro to sell templates. All you gotta do is just learn some basics and keep practicing.
- Don’t expect to get sales from day one or by listing only 3-4 products. Keep creating and listing. More products means more sales.
- Make sure to sell quality templates. If you have huge bundles of templates but the quality is cheap then you may not get any sales. Quality over quantity!
- Make sure to create at least 6-10 products before launching a website or selling on any marketplace.
Before you go, I want to discuss how you can get traffic on your template shop or listings. You must market your templates to get some sales because publishing and waiting for someone to magically find them is not a great strategy.
The best platform to market your templates is Pinterest. Pinterest is a visual search engine so it’s a great way to get more eyeballs on your templates.
Create beautiful pins and include product images in them. Keep the design simple and attractive. Pin 4-6 fresh pins daily to relevant boards.
